"Beyond Skin Deep" The Exploration of Blackness

107 Harvard Avenue North, Claremont, CA, USA

February 3rd 2024 6-9PM

Domonique Brown, hailing from Pomona, CA, began her creative roots through drawing at a young age. Her Southern Californian upbringing laid the foundation for her work. Her passion for art led her to pursue a MBA degree, studying at six different colleges including OTIS College of Design, USC, and UCLA. Her studies allowed her to hone her skills in illustration, design, and art direction.

Brown has collaborated with several well-known brands such as Samsung, Forbes, Disney, Dr. Martens, and more. She has been interviewed by CNBC, Forbes, Fortune, and even Ryan Seacrest in support of Domonique’s mission to popularize the depiction of women and men of color in art and retail.

She founded DomoINK, a lifestyle brand that offers art, apparel, and home decor featuring her original designs, celebrating diversity. The brand has made strides in retail by selling products in stores and online at major retailers such as Target, Walmart, Urban Outfitters, Macy’s, and more, showcasing her unique vision and voice.

Brown's work is heavily influenced by popular culture, social movements, and her personal experiences. She uses vibrant colors and bold figures to create portraits that challenge stereotypes and defy traditional representation. Her illustrations are not only visually stunning; they also carry messages of positivity, joy, and resilience. She aims to inspire and uplift her audience, particularly young people of color who may not see themselves reflected in mainstream media.

Furthermore, Brown collaborates with other artists and organizations to support causes such as education, health, and equality, which she is passionate about.

We are honored to have Domonique Brown as our featured artist for Black History Month. Her exhibit will showcase some of her most iconic and recent works, as well as some exclusive pieces created for our gallery. The exhibit will run from February 3rd to February 27th, 2024, at the Ahmad Shariff Art Gallery in Claremont, California.

Come and join us in celebrating Black History Month with Domonique Brown!
