KATI THOMSON
"I'm inspired by life's resilience—how beauty and connection emerge from chaos. We seek hope, we transcend. ‘Kintsugi’ reflects the philosophy of honoring our breaks and repairs as part of our story. Our wholeness isn’t defined by attributes alone, but by the contradictions, flaws, and triumphs that shape us. We are all beautiful disasters."

Kati Thomson’s understanding of the figure is derived from a classical
perspective but is heavily influenced by Impressionism and the Abstract
Expressionist tradition of the California art world. Finding inspiration from the iconic portraiture and poses of European masters, she abstracts and re-
represents chosen elements to craft a narrative that is relevant and deeply
personal to the viewer. Kati employs multiple materials - acrylic, cold wax,
graphite, chalk, and finally oil paint. The result is thick texture, vivid color and luscious painted strokes that evoke elements of collage, abstract expressionism and even finger painting. Alongside this exuberant chaos, the finely rendered details of portraiture and figure affirm her interest in the human condition.
Kati is a California native, which has informed each of her creative efforts. After a long career in healthcare, her need to tell stories has taken her from writing unpublishable novels and screenplays, some decent poetry, then to film production. Finally, she has found a home in visual art. Working mostly in oil, Kati paints a variety of subjects both from life and in her studio in Clovis, California with a focus on Figurative art.
Mostly self-taught, Kati has workshopped at Art Student’s League of NY and with many well-known artists such as Arthur Gain, Mia Bergeron, Randall Sexton, Steven Assael and others. Her work has found its home in Corporate and private collections in California, Seattle, Scottsdale, AZ and New York.
