Dual Exhibition by David Pion-Berlin & Hanna Kabar: A Landscape Journey

Updated: Oct 7

Experience the Beauty of Nature

July 15–27 | Opening Reception: July 18, 6–9 PM

Ahmad Shariff Art Gallery, Claremont, CA

There is something deeply grounding about walking into a gallery filled with painted landscapes. Each canvas feels like a memory you almost forgot. At Ahmad Shariff Art Gallery, this emotional connection is front and center in our latest exhibition: “A LANDSCAPE JOURNEY; TWO ARTISTIC VISIONS.”

This exhibit by artists Hanna Kabar and David Pion-Berlin draws attention to the beauty of our natural surroundings. Their styles are different yet both are rooted in art’s realist tradition. Inspired by places they have seen, visited, photographed, or imagined, they try to capture something real about the physical terrain. They also convey their own interpretations through the creative use of perspective, warm and cool colors, texture, light, and shadow. Their hope is that the paintings draw viewers in so they can picture themselves standing amidst the beauty of the natural world.

David Pion-Berlin’s Artistic Philosophy

David’s approach to painting is grounded in self-expression and sensory translation. His landscapes are not about capturing places as cameras do. They are emotional recreations where the warmth of a sunset or the cool hush of twilight becomes the essence of the composition. His works often feature familiar settings from California and beyond, yet they always feel new—as if seen for the first time with fresh eyes.

Hanna Kabar’s Soulful Return to the Canvas

For Hanna, each landscape is a reunion. Although he held a brush again only recently, his artistic journey never truly stopped. His paintings are filled with imagined terrains and emotional topographies—dreamt rivers, cherished mountains, and valleys whispered into life through memory and color. His use of texture and bold color creates a narrative within each scene, making every canvas a chapter in a spiritual travelogue.

Realism, Interpretation, and Conversation

Both artists belong to the realist tradition, but their interpretations of landscapes tell two very different stories—one rooted in technique and introspection, the other in memory and mysticism. Together, their paintings offer a balanced conversation on how we relate to nature and how artists translate that bond onto canvas.

The Impact of Art on Our Lives

Art has a profound impact on our lives. It can evoke emotions, spark memories, and inspire change. In this exhibition, both artists invite you to reflect on your own experiences with nature. How do the landscapes you encounter influence your thoughts and feelings?

The Role of Nature in Art

Nature has always been a significant source of inspiration for artists. It serves as a backdrop for human experiences and emotions. By capturing the essence of nature, artists like David and Hanna create a bridge between the viewer and the natural world. Their works remind us of the beauty that surrounds us and the importance of preserving it.

Engaging with the Artwork

When visiting the exhibition, take your time to engage with each piece. Notice the details, the colors, and the emotions they convey. Consider what each landscape means to you. This personal connection is what makes art so powerful.

The Future of Art Exhibitions

As we move forward, art exhibitions will continue to evolve. They will incorporate new technologies and approaches to engage audiences. However, the core mission remains the same: to connect people with art and foster a deeper understanding of the world around us.

In conclusion, the dual exhibition by David Pion-Berlin and Hanna Kabar at the Ahmad Shariff Art Gallery is not just about showcasing beautiful landscapes. It’s about creating a space for reflection, conversation, and connection. Join us in celebrating the beauty of nature through art.
