I grew up in the Dakotas and noticed that there is a moment before a violent storm when everything becomes an eerie calm and quiet. The effect of that moment had a sublime effect on me, one of the awesomeness of nature and the overwhelming spell of its power. The neutral browns and grays provide the feeling of that calm, and the larger square canvas an attempt to corral that power and energy. I believe we can hold those two opposing emotions in our souls and The Silent Stillness demonstrates that potential.
