From an early age, Sherie Garner displayed a keen ability to draw from her imagination. By fourth grade, her creative spark led her to experiment with oil painting, setting the foundation for a lifelong passion for art. Though she pursued practical skills in trade school, eventually working as a typist in Chicago, her artistic aspirations never faded.
In 1992, Sherie rekindled her artistic journey, purchasing her first art book in years. By 1995, she expanded her creative toolbox by learning Photoshop, a skill that enabled her to shift her career toward visual arts. Determined to refine her craft, she enrolled in college-level drawing classes in 2002, which significantly strengthened her abilities. That same year, a pivotal meeting with renowned Omaha muralist Stephen Roberts encouraged her to focus on animal subjects, leading to her first art show weeks later—a moment that marked the beginning of her exhibition career.
Sherie has since continued to showcase her work, excelling in oil painting, graphite, colored pencils, oil pastels, and mixed media, including Chinese brushwork and inks. Her style is rooted in realism, shaped by influences such as Stephen Roberts and Omaha-based pencil artist Kent Bellows. Additionally, she has drawn inspiration from reference books by Gene Franks, Lee Hammond, Claudia Nice, and Rebecca Yue. With unwavering persistence, she has evolved beyond her early artistic beginnings, embracing the journey of artistic growth and storytelling through visual expression.
